Centering Practice

We are invited by the Holy Spirit to center ourselves in the love of Christ today:

  • 4 or 5 deep breaths in silence
  • If you have a “star word” for this year, you can breathe that in and out as we pray

Call to Worship

God is our rock and our salvation.
We will not be shaken.
We open our hearts to trust in God.

May God be a refuge and very-present help
to us and all who call out to Jesus.
Amen.

Worship Songs

Be Thou My Vision

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You

Be thou my Vision
O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me
Save that Thou art

Thou my best thought
By day or by night
Waking or sleeping
Thy Presence my Light

Riches I heed not
Nor vain empty praise
Thou mine inheritance
Now and always

Thou and Thou only
Be first in my heart
High King of Heaven
My treasure Thou art

O God be my everything
Be my delight
Be Jesus, my glory
My soul satisfied

High King of Heaven
When victory is won
May I reach Heaven’s joys
O bright Heaven’s sun

Heart of my own heart
Whatever befall
Still be my vision
O Ruler of all

Great Things

Come let us worship our King
Come let us bow at His feet
He has done great things

See what our Savior has done
See how His love overcomes
He has done great things
He has done great things

O Hero of Heaven
You conquered the grave
You free every captive and break every chain
O God, You have done great things

We dance in Your freedom, awake and alive
O Jesus, our Savior, Your name lifted high
O God, You have done great things

You’ve been faithful through every storm
You’ll be faithful forevermore
You have done great things

And I know You will do it again
For Your promise is “Yes and amen”
You will do great things
God, You do great things

Hallelujah God, above it all
Hallelujah God, unshakable
Hallelujah, You have done great things

Hallelujah God, above it all
Hallelujah God, unshakable
Hallelujah, You have done great things
You’ve done great things

Community Prayer

God, Your love is greater than we can describe;
beyond the highest stars, deeper than the ocean;
enduring, measureless, strong.

So many people and places around the world
need to know the reality of Your saving love.
Together, we lift up our hearts in prayer:

— Moment of silent prayer —

Awaken our souls, O God,
and make us ambassadors of Your steadfast love.
Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

Announcements
  • Thanks for worshiping with us today! We hope you experience meaningful connection with God and others in our community. If you’re visiting for the first time today, we’d love to get to know you better. Please take home a visitor’s card with QR code so that we can stay in touch & build a relationship!
  • 10:02 prayer: For the first month of the year, we’ll be praying together as a church, for the church, at 10:02 pm each day. (You can set your alarms now, if you haven’t already!)
  • Women’s Retreat: February 2-4 at Camp Stevens. The $190 registration fee includes 2 nights/3 days and all meals! Please talk to Anne Kim today for more details. Even if you can only attend for part of it, please come out to the retreat! Please write checks to Solana Beach Presbyterian Church and write “Anchor & Hope Women’s Retreat 2024” in the memo.
  • Sunday School volunteers: Please prayerfully consider signing up to teach a Sunday School class this year. Talk to Tae, Cherry, or Ann today!
  • P-ART-nership with Sandburg: On Wednesday, January 31st, Ann Leong will lead an art class for a group of students from Sandburg (and raise funds for the school in the process!). Please support us in prayer and let us know if you can help out!
  • Rise Against Hunger: On Sunday, March 3rd, instead of our regular worship service we’ll host a meal packing event. We have the opportunity to send 10,000 meals. The cost will be $3,900 — you can give via Tithely (choose Rise Against Hunger from the drop-down) or in person on Sundays. You can invite friends to join us that day as we serve others. Let’s continue to dream big for how we can show God’s love!

Passing of the Peace

Let’s greet each other at this time!

Worship Song

Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You

Jesus, the Name above every other name
Jesus, the only One who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You, we live for You

Holy, there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder

And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love
To those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

Scripture Reading

Jonah 3:1-5, 10

The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days’ walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth…

10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them, and he did not do it.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
Together: Thanks be to God.

  • What’s a message today that will help people’s hearts & minds turn to God?

Worship Song

Open Up

All that we do without love
It means nothing
Grant us the courage to give
As You’re calling

Make me an instrument
Of Your peace
Where there is hatred
Let me sow love

Where there is darkness
Let me shine light and…

May Your love
Cause us to open up
Cause us to open up our hearts

May Your light
Cause us to shine so bright
That we bring hope into the dark

Hope for the hopeless
Your love is

Strength in our weakness
Your love is

May we love
As You love

Benediction
