Welcome

We believe Jesus is our anchor and our constant.

We know what it’s like to feel untethered in this age of continual change. You are not alone! We believe God is inviting you to a life of wholeness, beauty, and goodness — and to find belonging in this community who is anchored in the love of Jesus and called to lives of hope

Anchor & Hope is a Third Culture church, drawing from our diverse Asian American heritage and experience, seeking to live out who God created us to be in all our beauty, complexity, and fullness. Many of us have experienced the pain of being told we were “neither this, nor that” and the redemptive power of Jesus affirming that we can be “both/and” people. This means, as a church, we affirm the God-given dignity, worth, and giftings of women, people of color, and our LGBTQ+ communities in the Kingdom of God — people who have all-too-often been marginalized and oppressed in the name of religious faith.

We believe in the abundance of God’s love. Hope grows as we share it! We invite all to receive, experience, and share the hope of Jesus through our Anchor & Hope family.

What to expect at Anchor & Hope on a Sunday

We believe church is more than a building — church is us, the people of God! That being said, we believe Sundays are a meaningful part of our life together in connecting with God and each other.

On Sundays, from the parking lot, you’ll see signs leading you to the multipurpose room at Sandburg Elementary, where we gather for worship. If you get there before 10:30 am, you can usually grab a quick snack and/or coffee near the entrance to the room. If you’re comfortable doing so, you can scan the QR codes on the signs near the entrance to fill out a visitor’s card (we won’t share your information with anyone else or spam your inbox, promise!) or find out more about our church’s online presence.

We are a casual, come-as-you-are, family church. Our worship services are intergenerational. That means kids and adults worship together each week. For kids aged 3 through 5th grade, we have a weekly Sunday School that is taught during the second part of the service (and led by volunteers). Once a month, we also have a youth group gathering for middle and high school aged students (also led by a volunteer!).

Our worship style is a mix of Presbyterian liturgy (we’re part of the Presbyterian Church USA) which usually includes prayers we say out loud together (the words are projected onto a screen and available online), singing together as the worship band leads us (you can find a couple of Spotify playlists on our homepage), and other creative, interactive elements (we might have a conversation in small groups, draw something together, or get up and move around!).

The whole worship service is usually between 70-80 minutes in length. We always enjoy snacks and conversation together after service. Most weeks, folks go out to grab lunch as well, so feel free to join us if you can!
