Centering Practice

Today we invite you to slow down, to breathe, and to connect with God and with our Anchor & Hope community

  • Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths
  • Stand and hold your hands in a posture that symbolizes the summer ahead

Call to Worship

God welcomes, God loves, God provides.
We are all created in the image of God,
equal in dignity and worth, beauty and love.

To our God of love, justice, and wholeness,
we lift up our voices and our lives.
This is the day the Lord has made,
we will rejoice and be glad in it. Amen.

Worship Songs

Sound of Adoration / How Can I Keep from Singing

How can I keep from singing Your praise
How can I ever say enough
How amazing is Your love

How can I keep from shouting Your name
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart want to sing

When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home

When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praise

When we were refugees
You were the One who took us in

When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praise

This is the sound of adoration
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love You

You are the joy of all creation
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love You

You are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way

You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praise

The Way

Through every battle
Through every heartbreak
Through every circumstance
I believe that You are my fortress
You are my portion
You are my hiding place

I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life

Through every blessing
Through every promise
Through every breath I take
I believe that You are Provider
You are Protector
You are the One I love

And it’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts, they can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when I’m here with You

It’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when

Prayer of Confession

Creator God,
As we consider the world You’ve made,
we’re amazed by the complexity and vastness,
and humbled that Your love gives us significance.

For our broken world, devastated by violence;
for all who are lost and afraid;
for the sorrow and pain we carry, we pray:

— Moment of silent prayer —

God of hope,
give us strength to battle sin within us and around us,
and grant us peace that overflows into life
and blessing for the world around us.
Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

Prayers of the People

This week, we’re sending Deleine to be a Young Adult Advisory Delegate to the 226th General Assembly of the PC(USA) — our national gathering that happens every 2 years. Hundreds of commissioners and delegates gather to pray, worship, discern, and decide on many important issues for our denomination. Our theme this year is, “Live Into Hope.”

Let us be faithful in prayer for Deleine, all of the commissioners and delegates, and for our denomination. Please hold up a hand of blessing as we pray:

Almighty and loving God,
in Jesus Christ You called disciples
and, by the Holy Spirit, made them one Church to serve You.
Bless and guide Deleine and the commissioners from our presbytery
as they serve at the General Assembly this week.

Grant all of the participants an openness
to the new things You are doing in the world,
holding onto Your faithfulness that guides us into the future.

In all deliberations and discernment,
guide Your Church with wisdom, grace, and love
to join Jesus’ mission of restoration
with courage, compassion, and creativity.
Amen.

Worship Song

I Speak Jesus / Hope’s Anthem

I just want to speak the name of Jesus
Over every heart and every mind
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
I speak Jesus

I just want to speak the name of Jesus
Over fear and all anxiety
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
I speak Jesus

Your name is power
Your name is healing
Your name is life

Break every stronghold
Shine through the shadows
Burn like a fire

We just want to speak the name of Jesus
Over every hurt and suffering
Declaring there is hope and there is freedom

Our hope is in You God
We are steadfast
We will not be moved

We’re anchored
Never shaken
All our hope is in You

Scripture Reading

Psalm 9:9-20

9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion.
Declare his deeds among the peoples.
12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

13 Be gracious to me, O Lord.
See what I suffer from those who hate me;
you are the one who lifts me up from the gates of death,
14 so that I may recount all your praises
and, in the gates of daughter Zion,
rejoice in your deliverance.

15 The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.
16 The Lord has made himself known; he has executed judgment;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands.
Higgaion. Selah

17 The wicked shall depart to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
nor the hope of the poor perish forever.

19 Rise up, O Lord! Do not let mortals prevail;
let the nations be judged before you.
20 Put them in fear, O Lord;
let the nations know that they are only human.
Selah

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
Together: Thanks be to God.

Promises

God of Abraham
You’re the God of covenant
And of faithful promises
Time and time again
You have proven
You’ll do just what You said

Though the storms may come and the winds may blow
I’ll remain steadfast
And let my heart learn, when You speak a word
It will come to pass

Great is Your faithfulness to me
Great is Your faithfulness to me
From the rising sun to the setting same
I will praise Your name
Great is Your faithfulness to me

God from age to age
Though the earth may pass away
Your word remains the same, yeah
Your history can prove
There’s nothing You can’t do
You’re faithful and true

I put my faith in Jesus
My anchor to the ground
My hope and firm foundation
He’ll never let me down

Benediction
