Centering Practice

Let’s center ourselves in the light & love of Jesus today.

  • Close your eyes and take 4 or 5 deep breaths
  • Picture a time or place when you felt brightness and/or warmth in a way that was meaningful for you (sunrise, campfire, from the cold, during a blackout)
  • Now, ask God to help you shine like that kind of light for others

Call to Worship

Jesus is the Light of the World,
shining bright to guide us through darkness.
In Christ, we find true life.

Those who are wise shall shine
like the brightness of the sky,
and those who lead the many to righteousness,
like the stars forever and ever. Amen.

Worship Songs

Sound of Adoration

When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home
When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praise

When we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praise

This is the sound of adoration
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love You

You are the joy of all creation
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love You

You are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praise

By the cross, I am free
Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
Your grace changes everything

Community Prayer

God, Your praise endures forever.
Your love is steadfast in times of uncertainty.
Your glory bursts into our everyday lives.

Comfort the sick and strengthen those who tend them.
Hold those who grieve and mourn close to Your heart.
Shine the light of wisdom upon those tasked to lead.

— Moment of silent prayer —

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

Announcements
  • Thanks for worshiping with us today! We hope you experience meaningful connection with God and others in our community. If you’re visiting for the first time today, we’d love to get to know you better. Please take home a visitor’s card with QR code so that we can stay in touch & build a relationship!
  • 10:02 prayer: For the first month of the year, we’ll be praying together as a church, for the church, at 10:02 pm each day.
  • Women’s Retreat: This Friday through Sunday (February 2-4) at Camp Stevens. Please give your registration fee to PJ or Anne (checks to Solana Beach Presbyterian Church and write “Anchor & Hope Women’s Retreat 2024” in the memo or via Tithely) and let them know when you’ll arrive.
  • P-ART-nership with Sandburg: This Wednesday, January 31st, Ann Leong will lead an art class for a group of students from Sandburg (and raise funds for the school in the process!). Please support us in prayer and let us know if you can help out!
  • Super Bowl Sunday: The Kwok’s have graciously opened their homes to us for the big game on February 11th after church! Keep an eye out for food sign-ups.
  • Ash Wednesday: We will begin the Lenten season together with a special worship service on Ash Wednesday (Feb 14th). Stay tuned for details!
  • Rise Against Hunger: On Sunday, March 3rd, instead of our regular worship service we’ll host a meal packing event. We have the opportunity to send 10,000 meals. The cost will be $3,900 — you can give via Tithely or in person on Sundays. You can invite friends to join us that day as we serve others. Let’s continue to dream big for how we can show God’s love!

Worship Song

Great Are You Lord

You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
every heart that is broken
And great are You, Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

We pour out our praise
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

All the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are You, Lord

Scripture Reading

Psalm 147:1-5

Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
    his understanding is beyond measure.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
Together: Thanks be to God.

Creative Response in Community

Worship Song

Have My Heart

My heart is Yours forever
My heart is Yours forever

You love with no reservation
You’re not looking for perfection
And there’s no need in me pretending
I’ll give You everything
I’ll give You everything

You deserve my full attention
And nothing less than my devotion
Oh, speak to me and I will listen
I’ll give You everything
I’ll give You everything

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
You can have my heart
You can have my heart

Be the Lord of my emotions
Set me free from selfish motives
And search me till there’s nothing hidden
And I’ll give You everything
Yes, I’ll give You everything
