The Fifth Sunday of Easter

Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by taking a couple of slow, deep breaths.

  • Hold your hands over your heart and breathe in and out slowly
  • Feel the beat of your heart and the air going in and out of your lungs
  • Slow down and remember how much God loves you

Call to Worship

Adapted from the Brief Statement of Faith

In sovereign love, God created the world good
and makes everyone equally in God’s image,
to live as one community.

In life and in death, we belong to God.
Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the steadfast love of God,

and the faithful presence of the Holy Spirit,
we trust in the one triune God,
whom alone we worship and serve.
Amen.

Worship Songs

Sound of Adoration

When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home
When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praise

When we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praise

This is the sound of adoration
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love You

You are the joy of all creation
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love You

You are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praise

By the cross, I am free
Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
Your grace changes everything

Cornerstone

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Savior’s love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh, may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne

Prayer of Confession

God our Creator,
You made the world, and each of us:
and the first word is goodness.

When we fail to see the image of God
in ourselves and those around us:
Restore us, O God, we pray:

— Moment of silent prayer —

God our Redeemer,
Give us new ways of seeing
Your love and life in and around us.
Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

Prayers of the People

Today, as we remember the people and places God has placed on our hearts,
we join together in the prayer Jesus taught us, saying:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Announcements
  • Thanks for worshiping with us today! We hope you experience meaningful connection with God and others in our community. If you’re visiting for the first time today, we’d love to get to know you better. Please take home a visitor’s card with QR code so that we can stay in touch & build a relationship!
  • Happy AANHPI Month: We celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month during May! We remember the advocacy of Jeanie Jew and Ruby Moy to help institute a week of celebration (signed into law by President Carter in 1978), and which was expanded into the month of May by President Bush in 1992.
  • Mental Health Awareness Month: We also celebrate this month of mental wellness as we seek to live into the fullness of God’s Shalom for us and for the world. The 2026 theme is “More Good Days, Together” — let’s find wholeness through all of the resources God makes available to us!
  • Reset Sunday: Our next Reset Sunday is coming up at the end of this month on Sunday, May 31st.
  • Save the Date: Please mark your calendars for our church retreat, which will be September 18-20 at Palomar Christian Conference Center.
  • Meal Packing Today: Right after our service, we will pack recipe kits for Feeding San Diego and share a meal together!

Passing of the Peace

Let’s greet each other at this time!

Blessing of the Children

Worship Song

Canvas & Clay

In my mother’s womb
You formed me with Your hands
Known and loved by You
Before I took a breath

When I doubt it, Lord, remind me
I’m wonderfully made
You’re an artist and a potter
I’m the canvas and the clay

You make all things work together
For my future and for my good
You make all things work together
For Your glory and for Your name

There’s a healing light
Just beyond the clouds
Though I’ve walked through fire
I see clearly now

I know nothing has been wasted
No failure or mistake
You’re an artist and a potter
I’m the canvas and the clay

Scripture Reading

Matthew 3:13-17

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw God’s Spirit descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from the heavens said, “This is my Son, my Beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

This is the Word of the Lord.
Together: Thanks be to God.

Worship Song

Lord I Need You w Build My Life

Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here, I find my rest

Without You, I fall apart
You’re the One
That guides my heart

Lord I need You
Oh I need You
Every hour I need You

My One defense
My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

Where sin runs deep
Your grace is more
Where grace is found
Is where You are

And where You are
Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation

I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

Benediction
