    The First Sunday After Christmas

    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths.

    • Today, let’s take a few moments to remember the faithful love of Jesus throughout this past year
    • As you continue to breathe slowly, what did you see? What did you hear? How did you receive God’s love? How did you share God’s love?

    Call to Worship

In Jesus, the grace of God has appeared,
    bringing salvation to all.

Like those who followed the star,
We come to seek Christ today.

With our whole heart we proclaim:
Glory to God in the highest! Amen

    Worship Songs

    My Hallelujah

    Open up the doors again
Let the King of glory in
    His Kingdom will never end
Oh, I know that You are good

Break the darkness with the light
All the earth let praise arise
    Every dead place come alive
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are good

    You will have my hallelujah
    You alone the highest name
    All to You I surrender
    Every breath I take
    Make my life Your praise

Oh, Spirit of the Living God
    Fire burning in my heart
I’m wide awake to who You are
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are good

You are my strength when I am weak
You are my sight when I can’t see
As praise goes up, I believe
    The walls are coming down

Oh, when I was lost, You rescued me
When I was bound, You set me free
As praise goes up, I believe
    The walls are coming down

    Great Are You Lord

    You give life
    You are love
You bring light to the darkness

    You give hope
    You restore
    every heart that is broken
    And great are You, Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

    We pour out our praise

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

    To You only

All the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
    Great are You, Lord

    Prayer of Confession

    God of all our days,
as we come to the close of this year,
we are grateful for Your steadfast love.

    Help us to remember Your faithfulness;
    Teach us to follow in Your ways;
Make us witnesses of Your mercy & grace:
Hear us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    Open our eyes, O God,
to the dawning of a new day
in the love of Christ. Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

    Holy One,
be the light in our darkness this day.

As we begin to conclude this year,
we continue to pray for people and places
who need Your hope, peace, joy & love:

    — Invite people forward to light candles —

    Holy One,
be the light in our darkness this day,

that we might reflect Your light
into every corner of our world.
    Amen.

    Worship Song

    Promises

    God from age to age
Though the earth may pass away
    Your word remains the same

    Your history can prove
    There’s nothing You can’t do
    You’re faithful and true

    Though the storms may come
    And the winds may blow
    I’ll remain steadfast

    And let my heart learn
    When You speak a word
    It will come to pass

Great is Your faithfulness to me
Great is Your faithfulness to me

From the rising sun to the setting same
    I will praise Your name
Great is Your faithfulness to me

I put my faith in Jesus
    My anchor to the ground
    My hope and firm foundation
    He’ll never let me down

    Scripture Reading

    Psalm 65

    1 Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.

    2 You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.

3 When we were overwhelmed by sins,
    you forgave our transgressions.

4 Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
    of your holy temple.

5 You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
    God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas,

6 who formed the mountains by your power,
    having armed yourself with strength,

7 who stilled the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.

    8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.

    9 You care for the land and water it;
    you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.

    10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.

11 You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.

    12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.

13 The meadows are covered with flocks
    and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.Reader:

This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Conversation questions:

    • Where are thin places from this past year where you met with God?
    • Does time feel like it’s slipping away? How can you experience the fullness of time with God each day? (new experiences, changing your routine, keeping your mind young & curious, practice presence)

    Worship Song

    Send the Rain

    Lord, we come to You
    Now with open hands
    Broken lives and dreams
    Washed up on the sand

    We’ve been beaten down
But still we choose to stand
    We choose to stand

    Lord, we long for You
    For Your hand to move
    Heal this barren land
    Come and make it new

    Jesus, You’re the life
    That is breaking through
    You’re breaking through

The saints of old in ancient days
    They worked the ground
    that we reap from today

So use our hands to cultivate
    The harvest that
    our children’s children taste
We’re ready God, so send the rain

    Lord, we’ll follow You
    To unbroken earth
    On the path not used
    Where new hope is birthed

    We will work as one
    Holding to Your truth
    To Your truth

    Heal the ruined cities
We destroyed with our own hands
    Bring us back together
Let us see the promised land

    Pour out Your Spirit
On this dry and thirsty ground
    O God of the harvest
Could it be right here and now
Could it be right here and now

    Open up the heavens,
    let Your rain fall down
We are thirsty, we are thirsty

Go Tell It on the Mountain

Go tell it on the mountain
    Over the hills and everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
    That Jesus Christ is born

    While shepherds kept their watching
    O’er silent flocks by night
    Behold throughout the heavens
    There shone a Holy Light

    The shepherds feared and trembled
    When Lo! Above the earth
    Rang out the angel chorus
    That hailed our Savior’s birth

    Down in a lowly manger
    The humble Christ was born
And God sent us our Salvation
    That blessed Christmas morn!

    Passing of the Peace

Let’s greet each other at this time!

    Reading of the Christmas Story

    Reading 1

    Isaiah 9:2; 6 (GNT)

The people who walked in darkness, have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them. You have given them great joy, Lord;  you have made them happy. They rejoice in what you have done,

A child is born to us!
A son is given to us!
And he will be our ruler.

    He will be called,
    “Wonderful Counselor,”
    “Mighty God,”
    “Eternal Father,”
    “Prince of Peace.”

    His royal power will continue to grow;
his kingdom will always be at peace.
He will rule as King David’s successor,
basing his power on right and justice,
from now until the end of time.

The Lord Almighty is determined to do all this.

    Reading 2

    Luke 2:1-7 (CEB)

In those days Caesar Augustus declared that everyone throughout the empire should be enrolled in the tax lists. This first enrollment occurred when Quirinius governed Syria. Everyone went to their own cities to be enrolled.

Since Joseph belonged to David’s house and family line, he went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to David’s city, called Bethlehem, in Judea. He went to be enrolled together with Mary, who was promised to him in marriage and who was pregnant.

While they were there, the time came for Mary to have her baby. She gave birth to her firstborn child, a son, wrapped him snugly, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the guestroom.

    Reading 3

    Luke 2:8-16 (CEB)

Nearby shepherds were living in the fields, guarding their sheep at night. The Lord’s angel stood before them, the Lord’s glory shone around them, and they were terrified.

The angel said, “Don’t be afraid! Look! I bring good news to you—wonderful, joyous news for all people. Your savior is born today in David’s city. He is Christ the Lord. This is a sign for you: you will find a newborn baby wrapped snugly and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great assembly of the heavenly forces was with the angel praising God. They said together:

“Glory to God in heaven, and on earth peace to everyone who pleases God”

    Open Up

    May Your love
    Cause us to open up
Cause us to open up our hearts

    May Your light
Cause us to shine so bright
That we bring hope into the dark

All that we do without love
    It means nothing
Grant us the courage to give
    As You’re calling

    Make me an instrument
    Of Your peace
    Where there is hatred
    Let me sow love

    Where there is darkness
    Let me shine light and…

    Hope for the hopeless
    Your love is
    Strength in our weakness
    Your love is

    May we love
    As You love

    You Hold It All Together

You come at the right time

    Never behind

So why would I be surprised
    When You deliver every time?

On mountaintops, You stay the same
On valley low, You never change

And I believe that I will see
    The goodness of the Lord
    I’m confident as seasons change
    Your faithfulness remains

You go, You go before me
    To prepare a blessing
    You madе a way

It’s more than I could imagine

    Blessing of the Children

    Scripture Reading

    Isaiah 35:1-10

1 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad,
    the desert shall rejoice and blossom;
    like the crocus
    2 it shall blossom abundantly,
and rejoice with joy and singing.
The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,
the majesty of Carmel and Sharon.
They shall see the glory of the Lord,
    the majesty of our God.

    3 Strengthen the weak hands,
and make firm the feeble knees.

4 Say to those who are of a fearful heart,
“Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God.
    He will come with vengeance,
    with terrible recompense.
He will come and save you.”

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
    and the ears of the deaf unstopped;

6 then the lame shall leap like a deer,
and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.
For waters shall break forth in the wilderness,
    and streams in the desert;

7 the burning sand shall become a pool,
    and the thirsty ground springs of water;
the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp,
the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

8 A highway shall be there,
    and it shall be called the Holy Way;
the unclean shall not travel on it,
    but it shall be for God’s people;
no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray.

9 No lion shall be there,
    nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;
they shall not be found there,
but the redeemed shall walk there.

10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
    and come to Zion with singing;
    everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
they shall obtain joy and gladness,
and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    The Second Sunday of Advent

    Centering Practice

    • We invite you to take 3 deep breaths as you hold a symbol of peace for yourself (hands over heart, hug, open, hands over eyes); whatever brings your pace down and allows you to encounter the Prince of Peace today

    Kingdom Come

    God, let Your kingdom come
    May Your will be done
    God, let Your kingdom come

Earth is groaning and we are longing

    When all injustice will bow
And every voice will cry out
    Holy is Your name

Lift up your heads, all the weak and the poor
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up your hearts, all who suffer and mourn
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up your eyes, all who hunger for more
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up a shout, let the earth hear your voice
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

    It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone

You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praise

    When we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
    When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praise

This is the sound of adoration
    Oh, how we love You
    Jesus, we love You

You are the joy of all creation
    Oh, how we love You
    Jesus, we love You

    You are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
    You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praise

By the cross, I am free
    Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
    Your grace changes everything

    Advent Prayer

As part of our Advent practice, we will pray together out loud and then take a few moments to pray for others by lighting a candle. As we light these candles, we know God hears our prayers and brings light and life to everywhere that needs it. We will conclude by praying out loud together at the end of this part of our service.

    Holy One,
be the light in our darkness this day.
As we have lit the candle of peace,
we pray for those people and places who need peace…

    — Invite people forward to light candles —

    Holy One,
be the light in our darkness this day,
that we might reflect Your light
into every corner of our world.
    Amen.

    Blessing of the Children

    Worship Song

Have My Heart / Here’s My Heart

    Here’s my heart Lord
    Here’s my heart Lord
    Here’s my heart Lord
    Speak what is true

    You love with no reservations
    You’re not looking for perfection
And there’s no need in me pretending
    I’ll give You everything
    I’ll give You everything

    You deserve my full attention
    Nothing less than my devotion
Oh, speak to me and I will listen
    I’ll give You everything
    I’ll give You everything

    Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
    You can have my heart
    You can have my heart

Be the Lord of my emotions
Set me free from selfish motives
And search me ’til there’s nothing hidden
    And I’ll give You everything
    Yes, I’ll give You everything

    My heart is Yours forever
    My heart is Yours forever

    Scripture Reading

    Isaiah 11:1-10

1 A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch shall grow out of his roots.

2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

3 His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
He shall not judge by what his eyes see
or decide by what his ears hear,

4 but with righteousness he shall judge for the poor
    and decide with equity for the oppressed of the earth;
he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

5 Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist
and faithfulness the belt around his loins.

    6 The wolf shall live with the lamb;
    the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
the calf and the lion will feed together,
and a little child shall lead them.

    7 The cow and the bear shall graze;
    their young shall lie down together;
and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,
and the weaned child shall put its hand on the vipers’s den.

9 They will not hurt or destroy
    on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

    10 On that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples;
the nations shall inquire of him, and his dwelling shall be glorious.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    How to Tend a Dream

    Pastor Dan

    Debrief on Reset Sunday:

    • How did you experience the act of preparation for Reset Sunday?
    • What brought you rest/renewal that day?
    • If you did not engage it this time around, what can you do differently next time?

    Worship Song

    Lord I Need You

    Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here, I find my rest

    Without You, I fall apart
    You’re the One
    That guides my heart

    Lord I need You
    Oh I need You
    Every hour I need You

    My One defense
    My righteousness
Oh God how I need You

    Where sin runs deep
    Your grace is more
    Where grace is found
    Is where You are

    And where You are
    Lord I am free
    Holiness is Christ in me

So teach my song to rise to You
    When temptation comes my way
When I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay

    Centering Practice

As we begin this Advent season, light a candle and read this call to worship out loud together:

    • Reader 1: The light shines in the darkness.
    • All together: Jesus, You are the Light of the World.
    • Reader 2: Shine into this world and our lives once again.
    • All together: Renew our dreams with new hope!

    Worship Song

    Wholehearted

Help me dance like a little child
Help me go just a little wild
    I’ve become far too civilized
Give me eyes wide with wonder and a heart of praise

Give me passion down in my soul
Give me fire from the Holy Ghost
Now it’s time to start letting go
Give me eyes wide with wonder and a heart of praise

    I wanna be wholehearted
    I wanna be wholehearted
    I wanna be wholehearted
    I wanna be Yours

Set me free from the cynical
Set me free, break down every wall
How my heart needs a miracle
Give me eyes wide with wonder and a heart of praise

In the shadows I’ll find You there
I won’t give into the despair
Let this be my defining prayer
Give me eyes wide with wonder and a heart of praise
    A heart of praise

    Passing of the Peace

    Kids Worship Song

    Shine (From the Inside Out)

    Shine from the inside out
That the world will see You live in me

You know me and You love me
You fill me, so send me to…

Know me, love me, fill me, send me…

    Kids Reflection

Read Psalm 19:1-4 out loud together:

The heavens tell about the glory of God.
The skies show that his hands created them.
Day after day they speak about it.
Night after night they make it known.
But they don’t speak or use words.
No sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into the whole earth.
Their words go out from one end of the world to the other.

God is truly wonderful! Watch the following video about some amazing creatures in God’s creation and take the quiz together:

    • I wonder what amazed or surprised you from today’s video?
    • I wonder how God’s creation helps us see how wonderful God is?
    • I wonder how we can tell about the glory of God during this Advent season?

    Prayer for Illumination

    Shine Your light, Lord Jesus,
    into our hearts and minds,
that we would shine like stars
    in Your world. Amen.

    Scripture Reflection

    Read Isaiah 2:1-5 out loud:

The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

    In days to come
the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established as the highest of the mountains
    and shall be raised above the hills;
all the nations shall stream to it.

Many peoples shall come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

He shall judge between the nations
    and shall arbitrate for many peoples;
they shall beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks;
    nation shall not lift up sword against nation;
neither shall they learn war any more.

    O house of Jacob,
    come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord!

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Worship Song

    Lost in Wonder

Who can breathe a million stars
Know their names and where they are
    There is none like You

Who brings forth the morning light
Sews the day beneath the night
    There is none like You
    There is none like You

So in awe, forever lost in wonder
Awe, no our hearts can’t turn away
In awe, we adore You like no other
    Ever lost in wonder
    Ever lost in wonder

Who can speak to crashing seas
Bring the raging storms to peace
    There is none like You

Who has shaped the mountains high
    Carved the valleys, painted skies
    There is none like You
    There is none like You

    Closing Blessing

    Light of the World,
as You make all things new,
    restore in us
    the wonder of Your love.

May Your hope fill us with courage,
may Your joy direct our steps,
    and may Your love overflow
into the lives of those around us.
    Amen.

    Scripture Reading

    Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two people are better than one.
They can help each other in everything they do.

10  Suppose either of them falls down.
Then the one can help the other one up.
But how miserable if a person falls down
and doesn’t have anyone to help them up!

    Worship Song

    My Hallelujah

    Open up the doors again
Let the King of glory in
    His Kingdom will never end
Oh, I know that You are good

Break the darkness with the light
All the earth let praise arise
    Every dead place come alive
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are good

    You will have my hallelujah
    You alone the highest name
    All to You I surrender
    Every breath I take
    Make my life Your praise

Oh, Spirit of the Living God
    Fire burning in my heart
I’m wide awake to who You are
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are good

You are my strength when I am weak
You are my sight when I can’t see
As praise goes up, I believe
    The walls are coming down

Oh, when I was lost, You rescued me
When I was bound, You set me free
As praise goes up, I believe
    The walls are coming down

    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths.

    • Today, we’ll practice “theology of the thumbs” to remind us that we uphold others and are held up by them as well
    • Say a short, silent prayer of blessing for your neighbors
    • Say out loud to your neighbors: I’m glad you’re here

    Call to Worship

    Adapted from the Belhar Confession

Jesus calls us together, in our diversity,
to a shared story and life together.

We make visible the unity of Christ
through the practice of love, kindness, and justice.

    Therefore, we reject hatred and prejudice;
instead, we stand with the suffering
    and oppressed

in obedience to our Lord, Jesus Christ.
    Amen.

    Worship Songs

    Beautiful One

    Wonderful, so wonderful
    Is Your unfailing love
Your cross has spoken mercy over me

No eye has seen, no ear has heard
    No heart could fully know
How glorious, how beautiful you are

    Beautiful One, I love You
    Beautiful One, I adore
Beautiful One, my soul must sing

    Powerful, so powerful
    Your glory fills the skies
Your mighty works displayed for all to see

    The beauty of Your majesty
    Awakes my heart to sing
How marvelous, how wonderful You are

You opened my eyes to Your wonders anew
You captured my heart with this love
Because nothing on earth is as beautiful as You

My soul, my soul must sing
My soul, my soul must sing
My soul, my soul must sing
    Beautiful One

    Oh Our Lord

    We behold the breaking dawn
The light that shines over everyone
We look to You, we long for You, oh Lord

    We behold the rising sun
The earth awaits, Your hope has come
We look to You, we long for You, oh Lord

    Oh, oh, oh, our Lord
    Oh, oh, oh, our Lord
How majestic is Your name in all the earth

    We behold the falling rain
Like waters rise, flood this place
We reach for You, we cling to You, oh Lord

Oh, Your name is a light in the darkness
Oh, Your name is the word of truth
Oh Your name, oh Your name

    Prayer of Confession

Our God who makes all things new,
You are making a way in the wilderness
    and rivers in the desert.

    Forgive our old ways of thinking & acting;
    Open our hearts to Your future;
    Re-create us in Your mercy & love;
Hear us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    Thank You, Jesus,
for the hope we have in You.
Guide us, our Creator, Redeemer & Sustainer.
    Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

The “one anothers” of Scripture teach us how to love one another in our church and to offer hope to all people. We will read aloud a “one another” from the Bible and hold a moment of silent prayer:

We pray together, with one another, that we would:

    Follow Jesus’ commandment,
to love one another as Christ loves us…
    (John 15:12)

    Welcome one another,
just as Christ has welcomed us…
    (Romans 15:7)

Be kind and tenderhearted to one another,
as God in Christ is to us…
    (Ephesians 4:32)

    Bear one another’s burdens,
    fulfilling the law of Christ…
    (Galatians 6:2)

Always seek to do good to one another
and to all in the name of Jesus…
    (1 Thessalonians 5:15)

    Amen.

Jesus, the Name above every other name
Jesus, the only One who could ever save

    Scripture Reading

    1 Peter 4:7-11

7 The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. 8 Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10 Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 11 Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

On valley low, You never change

    You madе a way

    Prayer of Confession

    O God,
We hold fast to the promise of Your love,
and the Story it tells in Scripture and life.

    Your love is a priceless treasure;
    steadfast and trustworthy,
stronger than death, and better than life.
We rest together in Your love:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    God of perfect love,
Drive away our fears and doubts
and help us to love one another.
    Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

Based on the Prayer for Peace by St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make us instruments of Your peace:

    Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    Where there is doubt, faith;

    Where there is despair, hope;
    Where there is darkness, light;
    Where there is sadness, joy.

For all who need to experience
    the fullness and flourishing
    of Your Shalom, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    Amen.

    Blessing of the Children

    Worship Song

    Promises

    God from age to age
Though the earth may pass away
    Your word remains the same

    Your history can prove
    There’s nothing You can’t do
    You’re faithful and true

    Though the storms may come
    And the winds may blow
    I’ll remain steadfast

    And let my heart learn
    When You speak a word
    It will come to pass

Great is Your faithfulness to me
Great is Your faithfulness to me

From the rising sun to the setting same
    I will praise Your name
Great is Your faithfulness to me

I put my faith in Jesus
    My anchor to the ground
    My hope and firm foundation
    He’ll never let me down

    Scripture Reading

    Psalm 145

1 I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.

2 Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.

    3 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;
    his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall extol your works to another
and shall declare your mighty acts.

5 They will recount the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works I will meditate.

6 They will proclaim the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.

7 They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

9 The Lord is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.

10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your faithful shall bless you.

11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
    and tell of your power,

12 to make known to all people your mighty deeds
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations
The Lord is faithful in all his words
and gracious in all his deeds.

14 The Lord upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.

15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.

    16 You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is just in all his ways
and kind in all his doings.

18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

    19 He fulfills the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry and saves them.

20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Worship Song

    Send the Rain

    Lord, we come to You
    Now with open hands
    Broken lives and dreams
    Washed up on the sand

    We’ve been beaten down
But still we choose to stand
    We choose to stand

    Lord, we long for You
    For Your hand to move
    Heal this barren land
    Come and make it new

    Jesus, You’re the life
    That is breaking through
    You’re breaking through

The saints of old in ancient days
    They worked the ground
    that we reap from today

So use our hands to cultivate
    The harvest that
    our children’s children taste
We’re ready God, so send the rain

    Lord, we’ll follow You
    To unbroken earth
    On the path not used
    Where new hope is birthed

    We will work as one
    Holding to Your truth
    To Your truth

    Heal the ruined cities
We destroyed with our own hands
    Bring us back together
Let us see the promised land

    Pour out Your Spirit
On this dry and thirsty ground
    O God of the harvest
Could it be right here and now
Could it be right here and now

    Open up the heavens,
    let Your rain fall down
We are thirsty, we are thirsty

    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths.

    • Hold yourself in a hug and be reminded of the embrace of God and God’s people throughout time and geography
    • Inhale: God draws us in
    • Exhale: We find belonging

    Call to Worship

    Adapted from the Belhar Confession

Jesus calls us together, in our diversity,
to a shared story and life together.

We make visible the unity of Christ
through the practice of love, kindness, and justice.

    Therefore, we reject hatred and prejudice;
instead, we stand with the suffering
    and oppressed

in obedience to our Lord, Jesus Christ.
    Amen.

    Worship Songs

    Sound of Adoration

    When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home
    When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praise

    When we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
    When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praise

This is the sound of adoration
    Oh, how we love You
    Jesus, we love You

You are the joy of all creation
    Oh, how we love You
    Jesus, we love You

    You are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
    You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praise

By the cross, I am free
    Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
    Your grace changes everything

    Here For You

Let our praise be Your welcome
Let our songs be a sign
We are here for You, we are here for You

Let Your breath come from heaven
Fill our hearts with Your life
We are here for You, we are here for You

To You our hearts are open
    Nothing here is hidden
    You are our one desire

    You alone are holy
    Only You are worthy
God, let Your fire fall down

Let our shout be Your anthem
    Your renown fill the skies
We are here for You, we are here for You

Let Your Word move in power
Let what’s dead come to life
We are here for You, we are here for You

    Prayer of Confession

    Spirit of God,
You have anointed us to bear witness
to Your love in our world:

    To the oppressed, Good News;
    For the brokenhearted, healing;
    To the captives, freedom.
Hear us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    God of justice,
    Make us oaks of righteousness,
a people who build, raise up, and restore,
    all for Your glory. Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

Based on James 5. I will pray a phrase, we will respond out loud together, and then hold a moment of silence for that prayer topic:

    For those who are suffering,
around the world and in our communities…
    Lord, we pray

    For all who are filled
    with joy and good cheer…
    We give You praise

    For those who need healing
    in body, mind, and spirit…
    Together, we pray over them…

    The prayer of the righteous
    is powerful and effective…
    Lord, make us whole;
    Raise us up in faith;
    Forgive and strengthen Your people.
    Amen.

    Worship Song

You Don’t Have to Lose Heart

Hey now, you don’t have to lose heart
Hey now, we are only at the start
    Of what God’s doing here

Hey now, you don’t have to lose heart
Hey now, we are only at the start
    Of what God’s doing here… He’s here

So let us put our trust
In the One who carries us
    So we can let go
    Of every disappointment
    Let us cling to love
To the hope ahead of us
    So we can hold on
    To every single promise

Brother, when your troubles weigh you down
Sister, fix your eyes on higher ground
On the peace yet to come, to come

Let us rest here in the hands
Of the One who made all things
Let us rest here in the plans
Of the One who knows all things

    Scripture Reading

    1 Corinthians 9:19-23

19 For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might gain all the more. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to gain Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so that I might gain those under the law. 21 To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not outside God’s law but am within Christ’s law) so that I might gain those outside the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, so that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I might become a partner in it.

    Open Up

    May Your love
    Cause us to open up
Cause us to open up our hearts

    May Your light
Cause us to shine so bright
That we bring hope into the dark

All that we do without love
    It means nothing
Grant us the courage to give
    As You’re calling

    Make me an instrument
    Of Your peace
    Where there is hatred
    Let me sow love

    Where there is darkness
    Let me shine light and…

    Hope for the hopeless
    Your love is
    Strength in our weakness
    Your love is

    May we love
    As You love

    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths.

    • Hebrews 12 tells us we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses — saints throughout the world, through time and history, who have walked faithfully with Jesus
    • As you breathe, we invite you to join hands with the people next to you, knowing that you are never alone — that you stand in a long line of faithful witnesses to the life-giving and life-transforming love of Christ
    • “Theology of the thumbs” — supporting and being supported by others

    Call to Worship

Adapted from the Brief Statement of Faith

In life and in death, we belong to God.
Through the transforming grace of our risen Lord,

    the steadfast love of God,
and the faithful presence of the Holy Spirit,

We are brought from darkness into light,
called to live and share the resurrection.
    Amen.

    Worship Songs

    Called Me Higher

    I could just sit
I could just sit and wait for all Your goodness
    Hope to feel Your presence

    And I could just stay
I could just stay right where I am
    and hope to feel You
    Hope to feel something again

But You have called me higher
    You have called me deeper
And I’ll go where You will lead me Lord

    And I could hold on
I could hold on to who I am and never let You
    Change me from the inside

    And I could be safe
I could be safe here in Your arms
    and never leave home
    Never let these walls down

    And I will be Yours
I will be Yours for all my life

    Oh Our Lord

    We behold the breaking dawn
The light that shines over everyone
We look to You, we long for You, oh Lord

    We behold the rising sun
The earth awaits, Your hope has come
We look to You, we long for You, oh Lord

    Oh, oh, oh, our Lord
    Oh, oh, oh, our Lord
How majestic is Your name in all the earth

    We behold the falling rain
Like waters rise, flood this place
We reach for You, we cling to You, oh Lord

Oh, Your name is a light in the darkness
Oh, Your name is the word of truth
Oh Your name, oh Your name

    Prayer of Confession

    God of faithful promises,
We lift our eyes to the hills,
knowing our help comes from You.

    Bring peace to our chaotic lives;
    Lift us up from our despair;
    Calm our anxieties and fears;
Hear us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    Spirit of God,
    Renew us in Your hope,
filling us with compassion & love
    today and every day.
    Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

    Presider:
    It helps, now and then,
to step back and take a long view.
The Kingdom is not only beyond our efforts,
it is even beyond our vision.

    We accomplish in our lifetime
only a tiny fraction of the magnificent enterprise
    that is God’s work.

    Nothing we do is complete,
which is a way of saying
that the Kingdom always lies beyond us.

No statement says all that could be said.
No prayer fully expresses our faith.
    No confession brings perfection.

    No pastoral visit brings wholeness.
No program accomplishes the Church’s mission.
No set of goals and objectives includes everything.

    Together:
This is what we are about.
We plant the seeds that one day will grow.
    We water seeds already planted,
knowing that they hold future promise.

We lay foundations that will need
    further development.
    We provide yeast that produces
    far beyond our capabilities.

    We cannot do everything,
and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
This enables us to do something,
and to do it very well.

It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning,
a step along the way, an opportunity
for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.

We may never see the end results,
but that is the difference between
the master builder and the worker.

    We are workers, not master builders;
    ministers, not messiahs.
    We are prophets
of a future not our own.
    Amen.

    Blessing of the Children

    Worship Song

    You Hold It All Together

You come at the right time
    When I least expect it
    Never behind

So why would I be surprised
    When You deliver every time?

On mountaintops, You stay the same
On valley low, You never change

And I believe that I will see
    The goodness of the Lord
    I’m confident as seasons change
    Your faithfulness remains

You go, You go before me
    To prepare a blessing
    You madе a way

It’s more than I could imagine
    More than I can fathom
    Or comprehend

    God of my present
    God of my future
    You write my story
    You hold it all together

    Scripture Reading

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (First Nations Version)

When the Chosen One appears, he will decide the fate of the living and the dead and bring his good road to us in all its fullness. In light of these things and in the sight of the Great Spirit and Creator Sets Free (Jesus) the Chosen One. I call on you to complete the sacred task of making his message known! Be ready whether the time seems right or not. Patiently instruct others. Give strong counsel, warnings, and firm words to strengthen their hearts. For a day will come when people will not listen to good teaching. They will gather around themselves to teachers who will tell them what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and believe made-up stories.

But you must remain clear-minded in every way, stand strong in hard times, and do the work of a good storyteller. Keep doing what Creator has called on you to do.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.
