    • Lenten Community Prayer: Starting on Ash Wednesday, February 18th and going throughout the season of Lent, we will have a 15 minute Zoom prayer gathering each Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
    • Reset Sunday: Our next Reset Sunday will be March 8th. Usually, our Reset Sundays are the last Sunday of the month with five Sundays, but that falls on Palm Sunday (when we will gather as a community!).

    We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths. 

    • We’re going to engage a 3-2-1 practice that can help ground us, especially when we’re feeling anxious or off-center 
    • First, as you breathe, look around the room by turning your head and acknowledge 3 things you see. 
    • Now, let’s close our eyes. Keep breathing and acknowledge 2 things you hear. 
    • Finally, keep your eyes closed and keep breathing slowly and acknowledge 1 thing you can touch.

    God calls us here together,
    each of us — our whole selves. 

    We remember that prayer is like breathing,
    a life-giving gift from God. 

    As we express our authentic selves to God,

    • Faith is like a seed that grows into something beautiful. As we begin to enter a new year, we’ll invite you to a few embodied motions: 
    • Breathe in and hold your hands to your heart, imagining that you’re holding a seed of faith 
    • Now, breathe in and hold your hands out, imagining that it’s beginning to grow (with the rain and sun and care it needs to flourish) 
    • Finally, breathe in and hold your arms outward, imagining that the seed has become a tall, powerful, beautiful tree!

    In Jesus, the grace of God has appeared,
    bringing salvation to all.

    Isaiah 9:2; 6 (GNT) 

    The people who walked in darkness, have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them. You have given them great joy, Lord;  you have made them happy. They rejoice in what you have done,

    A child is born to us!
    A son is given to us!
    And he will be our ruler.

    He will be called,
    “Wonderful Counselor,”

    “Eternal Father,”

    Luke 2:1-7 (CEB)

    In those days Caesar Augustus declared that everyone throughout the empire should be enrolled in the tax lists. This first enrollment occurred when Quirinius governed Syria. Everyone went to their own cities to be enrolled. 

    Since Joseph belonged to David’s house and family line, he went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to David’s city, called Bethlehem, in Judea. He went to be enrolled together with Mary, who was promised to him in marriage and who was pregnant. 

    While they were there, the time came for Mary to have her baby. She gave birth to her firstborn child, a son, wrapped him snugly, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the guestroom.

    Nearby shepherds were living in the fields, guarding their sheep at night. The Lord’s angel stood before them, the Lord’s glory shone around them, and they were terrified.

    The angel said, “Don’t be afraid! Look! I bring good news to you—wonderful, joyous news for all people. Your savior is born today in David’s city. He is Christ the Lord. This is a sign for you: you will find a newborn baby wrapped snugly and lying in a manger.”

    Advent Prayer

    As part of our Advent practice, we will pray together out loud and then take a few moments to pray for others by lighting a candle. As we light these candles, we know God hears our prayers and brings light and life to everywhere that needs it. We will conclude by praying out loud together at the end of this part of our service.

    Holy One, 
    be the light in our darkness this day. 
    As we have lit the candle of peace,  
    we pray for those people and places who need peace…
