    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by closing our eyes and taking several slow, deep breaths

    • This month, we will explore what it means to engage with, live into, and dialogue with Scripture
    • We invite you to cover your ears, to block out the noise — listen to the sound of your own breathing and with openness to hearing God’s voice

    Call to Worship

We gather together to seek Jesus,
    the Light of the World
and the One who sets us free.

We open our hearts, minds, and lives
to hear the voice of Love.
May the word of Christ dwell in us richly.
    Amen.

    Worship Songs

    Called Me Higher

    I could just sit
I could just sit and wait for all Your goodness
    Hope to feel Your presence

    And I could just stay
I could just stay right where I am
    and hope to feel You
    Hope to feel something again

But You have called me higher
    You have called me deeper
And I’ll go where You will lead me Lord

    You have called me higher
    You have called me deeper
And I’ll go where You will lead me Lord

    Where You lead me Lord

    And I could hold on
I could hold on to who I am and never let You
    Change me from the inside

    And I could be safe
I could be safe here in Your arms
    and never leave home
    Never let these walls down

    And I will be Yours
I will be Yours for all my life

    My Hallelujah

    Open up the doors again
Let the King of glory in
    His Kingdom will never end
Oh, I know that You are good

Break the darkness with the light
All the earth let praise arise
    Every dead place come alive
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are good

    You will have my hallelujah
    You alone the highest name
    All to You I surrender
    Every breath I take
    Make my life Your praise

Oh, Spirit of the Living God
    Fire burning in my heart
I’m wide awake to who You are
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are good

You are my strength when I am weak
You are my sight when I can’t see
As praise goes up, I believe
    The walls are coming down

Oh, when I was lost, You rescued me
When I was bound, You set me free
As praise goes up, I believe
    The walls are coming down

    Prayer of Confession

    God of justice and joy,
We see evidence of Your love all around us:
In growing gardens and growing children.

We confess our fears and failures to You:
    When we hesitate to offer generosity;
    For the ways we try to control outcomes;
Hear us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    Renewing Spirit,
Breathe the breath of life into us again.
    Renew us in overflowing love.
    Amen.

    Blessing of the Children

    Worship Song

    Great Are You Lord

    You give life
    You are love
You bring light to the darkness

    You give hope
    You restore
    every heart that is broken
    And great are You, Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

    We pour out our praise

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

    To You only

All the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
    Great are You, Lord

    Scripture Reading

    Psalm 119:1-48

Happy are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord.
Happy are those who keep his decrees,
who seek him with their whole heart,
    who also do no wrong
        but walk in his ways.
    You have commanded your precepts
        to be kept diligently.

O that my ways may be steadfast
        in keeping your statutes!
Then I shall not be put to shame,
having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
I will praise you with an upright heart,
when I learn your righteous ordinances.
    I will observe your statutes;
        do not utterly forsake me.

How can young people keep their way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
    10 With my whole heart I seek you;
do not let me stray from your commandments.
11 I treasure your word in my heart,
so that I may not sin against you.
    12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
        teach me your statutes.

13 With my lips I declare
all the ordinances of your mouth.
14 I delight in the way of your decrees
as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
    16 I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.

17 Deal bountifully with your servant,
so that I may live and observe your word.
18 Open my eyes, so that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.
    19 I live as an alien in the land;
do not hide your commandments from me.
20 My soul is consumed with longing
for your ordinances at all times.

21 You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
        who wander from your commandments;
22 take away from me their scorn and contempt,
for I have kept your decrees.
23 Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
    24 Your decrees are my delight;
        they are my counselors.

    25 My soul clings to the dust;
revive me according to your word.
    26 When I told of my ways, you answered me;
        teach me your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
    28 My soul melts away for sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word.

29 Put false ways far from me,
and graciously teach me your law.
    30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I set your ordinances before me.
    31 I cling to your decrees, O Lord;
let me not be put to shame.
32 I run the way of your commandments,
        for you enlarge my understanding.

33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes,
and I will observe it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
and observe it with my whole heart.
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments,
        for I delight in it.
36 Turn my heart to your decrees
        and not to selfish gain.

    37 Turn my eyes from looking at vanities;
be gracious to me according to your word.
38 Confirm to your servant your promise,
which is for those who fear you.
39 Turn away the disgrace that I dread,
        for your ordinances are good.
    40 See, I have longed for your precepts;
in your righteousness be gracious to me.

41 Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord,
your salvation according to your promise.
42 Then I shall have an answer for those who taunt me,
for I trust in your word.
43 Do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
for my hope is in your ordinances.
44 I will keep your law continually,
        forever and ever.

45 I shall walk at liberty,
for I have sought your precepts.
46 I will also speak of your decrees before kings
        and shall not be put to shame;
47 I find my delight in your commandments
        because I love them.
48 I revere your commandments, which I love,
and I will meditate on your statutes.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Have My Heart

    You love with no reservations
    You’re not looking for perfection
And there’s no need in me pretending
    I’ll give You everything
    I’ll give You everything

    You deserve my full attention
    Nothing less than my devotion
Oh, speak to me and I will listen
    I’ll give You everything
    I’ll give You everything

    Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
    You can have my heart
    You can have my heart

Be the Lord of my emotions
Set me free from selfish motives
And search me ’til there’s nothing hidden
    And I’ll give You everything
    Yes, I’ll give You everything

    My heart is Yours forever
    My heart is Yours forever

    Worship Songs

Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly

It all comes down to this
    What You require of me
    Love my neighbor as myself
    And You above all things

    Act justly, love mercy
    Walk humbly, with You God
In all things, in all ways
    Walk humbly, with You God

It all comes down to this
To be Your hands and feet
Good News to all the world
The truth will set us free

    It’s beauty for ashes
    It’s mourning to dancing
    It’s closer and closer
    The Kingdom of heaven

    Years from now we’ll see
The fruit our hands have sown
    Faith just like a seed
    The only way it grows

    Kingdom Come

    God, let Your kingdom come
    May Your will be done
    God, let Your kingdom come

Earth is groaning and we are longing
    For Your kingdom to come
All creation and all of heaven
    Join their voices as one

    Hope is stirring, joy arising
As we look to the day
    When all injustice will bow
And every voice will cry out
    Holy is Your name

Lift up your heads, all the weak and the poor
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up your hearts, all who suffer and mourn
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up your eyes, all who hunger for more
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up a shout, let the earth hear your voice
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

I will build my life upon Your love
    It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

    Community Prayer

    Gracious God,
You are reconciling the world to Yourself
    through Jesus Christ.

Today, we confess the countless ways
    we remain un-reconciled:

And now I invite you to a few moments of silent prayer:

    • For the ways we turn away from Your voice, O God;
    • When we ignore the cries of our neighbors near and far;
    • For the ways we seek comfort over self-reflection or sacrifice;
    • In our disconnection from one another and from Your Church

    Merciful God,
    Transform our hearts
    and reshape our desires
    to reflect Your goodness daily.
    Amen.

    Blessing of the Children

    Worship Song

    The Kingdom is Yours

Blessed are the ones who do not bury
All the broken pieces of their heart
Blessed are the tears of all the weary
Pouring like a sky of falling stars

Blessed are the wounded ones in mourning
Brave enough to show the Lord their scars
Blessed are the hurts that are not hidden
Open to the healing touch of God

The Kingdom is yours, the Kingdom is yours
Hold on a little more, this is not the end
Hope is in the Lord, keep your eyes on Him

And blessed are the ones who walk in kindness
Even in the face of great abuse
Blessed are the deeds that go unnoticed
    Serving with unguarded gratitude

And blessed are the ones who fight for justice
Longing for the coming day of peace
Blessed is the soul that thirsts for righteousness
Welcoming the last, the lost, the least

Blessed are the ones who suffer violence
And still have strength to love their enemies
Blessed is the faith of those who persevere
Though they fall, they’ll never know defeat

    Scripture Reading

    Luke 4:16-21

16 When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
20 And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Proclaiming God’s Justice

    Pastor Dan

    PC(USA) Directory for Worship, W-5.0304

God sends the Church to work for justice in the world: exercising its power for the common good; dealing honestly in personal and public spheres; seeking dignity and freedom for all people; welcoming strangers in the
land; promoting justice and fairness in the law; overcoming disparities between rich and poor; bearing witness against systems of violence and oppression; and redressing wrongs against individuals, groups, and peoples.

God also sends the Church to seek peace: in the Church universal, within denominations, and at the congregational level; in the world, where nations and religious or ethnic groups make war against one another; and in local communities, schools, workplaces, neighborhoods, and homes. These acts of peacemaking and justice are established upon God’s gracious act of reconciliation with us in Jesus Christ, and are a way of participating in Christ’s priestly intercession or advocacy for the world.

    Great Things

Come let us worship our King
Come let us bow at His feet
    He has done great things

See what our Savior has done
    See how His love overcomes
    He has done great things
    He has done great things

    O Hero of Heaven
    You conquered the grave
You free every captive and break every chain
O God, You have done great things

We dance in Your freedom, awake and alive
O Jesus, our Savior, Your name lifted high
O God, You have done great things

You’ve been faithful through every storm
    You’ll be faithful forevermore
    You have done great things

And I know You will do it again
For Your promise is “Yes and amen”
    You will do great things
    God, You do great things

    Expectation

    You redeem our past
You take what’s old and broken
    You’re breathing in new life

    Rhythms of Your grace
    Moving us to freedom
    From darkness into light

You will make all things new,
    You’ll bring Your kingdom here
    We wait in expectation

We lift our eyes to You
    Salvation’s drawing near
    We wait in expectation

    You have overcome
    The troubles we are facing
    You’re standing here with us

    Oppression cannot win
    And anxious thoughts are broken
By the pow’r of Jesus’ name

    Prayer of Confession

    God of all,
thank You for the gifts of beauty and wonder,
especially during times of anxiety and pain.

    For those crying out for justice and restoration;

    For all our neighbors near and far;
Hear us, O God, we pray.

    Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
    We live for You

Jesus, the Name above every other name
Jesus, the only One who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You, we live for You

Holy, there is no one like You
    There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder

And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love
    To those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
    It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

    Scripture Reading

    Luke 10:25-37

25 An expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” 27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”29 But wanting to vindicate himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and took off, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan while traveling came upon him, and when he saw him he was moved with compassion. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, treating them with oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him, and when I come back I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Close your eyes and slow down your breathing. Listen to “Praying” by Mary Oliver:

    It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just
    pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak.

    Call to Worship

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    Sing God’s glorious name;
    Shout out glorious praise!

    God has turned our mourning into dancing;
Let all the earth praise God’s holy name.
Tell of God’s awesome deeds among all people!
    Amen.

    Worship Songs

    Sound of Adoration

    When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home
    When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praise

    When we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
    When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praise

This is the sound of adoration
    Oh, how we love You
    Jesus, we love You

You are the joy of all creation
    Oh, how we love You
    Jesus, we love You

    You are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
    You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praise

By the cross, I am free
    Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
    Your grace changes everything

    Kingdom Come

    God, let Your kingdom come
    May Your will be done
    God, let Your kingdom come

Earth is groaning and we are longing
    For Your kingdom to come
All creation and all of heaven
    Join their voices as one

    Hope is stirring, joy arising
As we look to the day
    When all injustice will bow
And every voice will cry out
    Holy is Your name

Lift up your heads, all the weak and the poor
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up your hearts, all who suffer and mourn
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up your eyes, all who hunger for more
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

Lift up a shout, let the earth hear your voice
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yours

I will build my life upon Your love
    It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

    Prayer of Confession

    God of all beginnings,
    We stand in awe of Your beautiful creation;
we are humbled by Your steadfast love.

    For the ways we fail to act in love;
    When we’re distracted by seeking comfort;
    For the ways we ignore the needs of others;
Forgive us, O God, we pray.

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    God of lovingkindness,
All day long, we put our trust in You.
Illuminate the path of love and justice,
and teach us to follow Your ways.
    Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

After each phrase, let’s pray out loud: “Lord, have mercy”

For those suffering from violence, hatred, and war…

For all of creation, groaning under the weight of sin and waste…

For ourselves and our loved ones,
to be strengthened, healed, and renewed…

For our friends who need to know Your love
and the friendship of our Anchor & Hope community…

For the Church worldwide to act justly, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with You…

    Amen.

    Blessing of the Children

    Worship Song

    You Hold It All Together

Our hope is in You God
    We are steadfast
    We will not be moved

    We’re anchored, never shaken
    All our hope is You

You come at the right time
    When I least expect it
    Never behind

So why would I be surprised
    When You deliver every time

On mountaintops, You stay the same
In valleys low, You never change

And I believe that I will see
    The goodness of the Lord
    I’m confident as seasons change
    Your faithfulness remains

You go, You go before me
    To prepare a blessing
    You madе a way

It’s more than I could imagine
    More than I can fathom
    Or comprehend

    God of our present
    God of our future
    You write our story
    You hold it all together

And we believe that we will see
    The goodness of the Lord
    We’re confident as seasons change
    Your faithfulness remains

    Scripture Reading

    Micah 4:1-5

    1 In days to come
the mountain of the Lord’s temple
shall be established as the highest of the mountains
and shall be raised up above the hills.
    Peoples shall stream to it,

2 and many nations shall come and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

3 He shall judge between many peoples
    and shall arbitrate between strong nations far away;
they shall beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks;
    nation shall not lift up sword against nation;
    neither shall they learn war any more;

4 but they shall all sit under their own vines
and under their own fig trees,
and no one shall make them afraid,
for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.

5 For all the peoples walk,
each in the name of its god,
but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God
    forever and ever.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Worship Songs

    Called Me Higher

    I could just sit
I could just sit and wait for all Your goodness
    Hope to feel Your presence

    And I could just stay
I could just stay right where I am
    and hope to feel You
    Hope to feel something again

But You have called me higher
    You have called me deeper
And I’ll go where You will lead me Lord

    You have called me higher
    You have called me deeper
And I’ll go where You will lead me Lord

    Where You lead me Lord

    And I could hold on
I could hold on to who I am and never let You
    Change me from the inside

    And I could be safe
I could be safe here in Your arms
    and never leave home
    Never let these walls down

    And I will be Yours
I will be Yours for all my life

Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly

It all comes down to this
    What You require of me
    Love my neighbor as myself
    And You above all things

    Act justly, love mercy
    Walk humbly, with You God
In all things, in all ways
    Walk humbly, with You God

It all comes down to this
To be Your hands and feet
Good News to all the world
The truth will set us free

    It’s beauty for ashes
    It’s mourning to dancing
    It’s closer and closer
    The Kingdom of heaven

    Years from now we’ll see
The fruit our hands have sown
    Faith just like a seed
    The only way it grows

    Prayer of Confession

    God of majesty and mercy,
    In Creation, You gave us all we need to live;
and in Jesus, You show us Your face of love.

    For our self-centeredness;
    for the ways we deny love and care to others;
    for turning away from Your path of love & justice;
Forgive us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

    Spirit of love,
Stir in us a new desire to walk with You
as a people of justice, peace, and love.
    Amen.

    Scripture Reading

    Amos 5:14-24

14 Seek good and not evil,
    that you may live,
and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you,
    just as you have said.

15 Hate evil and love good,
    and establish justice in the gate;
it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts,
will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

    …

    21 I hate, I despise your festivals,
and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.

22 Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
    I will not accept them,
and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals
    I will not look upon.

    23 Take away from me the noise of your songs;
I will not listen to the melody of your harps.

24 But let justice roll down like water
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    Centering Practice

Adapted from Black Liturgies by Cole Arthur Riley

Cole Arthur Riley writes, “It can feel foolish to pause to marvel at the stars when the world when the world is burning. Or to find the world beautiful when you’ve known it to betray you. But wonder is a liberation practice. A reminder that we contain more than tragedy. Beauty is our origin and our anchor.”

    • Inhale: We pause to behold.
    • Exhale: All around us, there is beauty.

    You Are God

    You Are God

I am not the Voice that rules the thunder
I am not the Word that calms the storm
I am not the Maker of the heavens
    You are, You are

I am not the center of the story
I am not the subject of this song
I am not the One who’s earned the glory
    You are, You are

    You are God
    You are not worried
    You go before me
Every word You’ve spoken will return to You done
    Your timing is perfect
    The waiting is worth it
We count it all as joy for Your glory oh, God

    You are good
    You are God

There’s a work You’ve started long before me
Your kingdom will endure beyond my time
You welcome me to join You in Your story
    I’m Yours, I’m Yours

Though my soul can’t see beyond this moment
Blurred by all the tears that I have cried
You’re the God who holds me in the tension
    Only You are God

And I know that if it ain’t done yet
    Then You ain’t done yet

    Kids Worship Song

    Light of the World

The world is searching for answer
A ray of hope in a hopeless world
    Who can we turn to?
    Where is our rescue?

There is someone, He′s the answer
He’s the light and He’ll light the way
    His name is Jesus
And He came to save us

He is the light, light, light
    Light of the world
    And He shine, shine, shines
    All over the earth
    Shining bright, bright, bright
He is the light of the world

    Kids Reflection

Today’s reflection comes from Psalm 19:1-4:

The heavens tell about the glory of God.
The skies show that his hands created them.
Day after day they speak about it.
Night after night they make it known.
But they don’t speak or use words.
No sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into the whole earth.
Their words go out from one end of the world to the other.

On Sundays, one of the things we love to do together as a church is sing praises to God. The Bible tells us that all of creations sings about God’s beauty and goodness! Did you know that even the stars sing praises to God? Take a minute to watch these videos together:

You can visit the NASA Sonifications page if you’d like to “hear” more stars!

Reset Sundays are special Sundays where we take time to connect with God through rest and wonder. We hope you get lots of good rest today! And we hope that you will experience wonder — because wonder helps us to worship God in new and wonderful ways!

Talk to your family about the following “I Wonder” questions. Each of you might give different responses, and that’s great!

    • I wonder what fills your heart with joy?
    • I wonder how you feel God’s love?
    • I wonder how you see other things in creation praising God? Use your imagination! (For example, have you ever heard a whale singing?)
    • I wonder what you want to praise God for right now?

    Say a short prayer together!

    • Right hand up… left hand up… clasp your hands together and bring them slowly to your laps! Repeat after me:
    • Dear God… thank You… for Your love… that makes us… and the whole world… sing Your praise… Fill us… with wonder… and love… in Jesus’ name way pray… Amen!

    Prayer for Illumination

    Illuminate our hearts, O God,
with the light of Your Word,
    that we would shine bright
and Your world would come alive.
    Amen.

    Scripture Reflection

    Read Psalm 19:1-4 out loud:

The heavens are telling the glory of God,
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
    There is no speech, nor are there words;
        their voice is not heard;
yet their voice goes out through all the earth
and their words to the end of the world.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
    Together: Thanks be to God.

    8 types of awe

These are the eight different types of awe, according to psychologist Dacher Keltner.

    1. Moral beauty: Witnessing acts of kindness, courage, or self-sacrifice that inspire admiration and uplift the spirit.
    2. Collective effervescence: Feeling connected to something larger than yourself within a group, often during large events.
    3. Nature: Experiencing the vastness, beauty, and power of the natural world, from towering mountains to intricate ecosystems.
    4. Music: Being moved by the emotional depth and complexity of music, whether it’s a soaring symphony or a simple melody.
    5. Visual design: Encountering awe-inspiring architecture, art, or other visually stunning creations that evoke wonder and admiration.
    6. Spirituality: Feeling connected to something divine, sacred, or transcendent through faith, meditation, or contemplation.
    7. Epiphanies: Grasping profound concepts, scientific discoveries, or philosophical insights that expand your understanding of the universe.
    8. Cycle of life: Reflecting on the mysteries of birth, fragility of existence, preciousness of life, and inevitability of death.

Take a moment to reflect on (and share, if you’re with others) the following questions:

    • When and where was the last time you experienced awe & wonder?
    • How are you hoping to experience God through awe & wonder in the coming days?

    Wholehearted

    Wholehearted

Help me dance like a little child
Help me go just a little wild
    I’ve become far too civilized
Give me eyes wide with wonder
    and a heart of praise

Give me passion down in my soul
Give me fire from the Holy Ghost
Now it’s time to start letting go
Give me eyes wide with wonder
    And a heart of praise

    I wanna be wholehearted
    I wanna be wholehearted
    I wanna be wholehearted
    I wanna be Yours

Set me free from the cynical
Set me free, break down every wall
How my heart needs a miracle
Give me eyes wide with wonder
    And a heart of praise

In the shadows I’ll find You there
I won’t give into the despair
Let this be my defining prayer
Give me eyes wide with wonder
    And a heart of praise
    A heart of praise

    Closing Blessing

Adapted from Black Liturgies by Cole Arthur Riley

Go into God’s world and behold the beautiful,
in both the majestic and the mundane,
    in the holy and ordinary,
and in all the spaces in-between.

May the Spirit meet you in your attentiveness,
may you see Jesus in the face of your neighbor,
and may your faith be held together by wonder.
    Amen.

Oh Your name, oh Your name

and light in the midst of darkness.

    Scripture Reading

    1 Kings 19:1-15

1 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life like the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” Then he was afraid;[a] he got up and fled for his life and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah; he left his servant there.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a solitary broom tree. He asked that he might die, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the broom tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said to him, “Get up and eat.” He looked, and there at his head was a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. He ate and drank and lay down again. The angel of the Lord came a second time, touched him, and said, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.” He got up and ate and drank; then he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God. At that place he came to a cave and spent the night there.

Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 He answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts, for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.”

11 He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 He answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts, for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.” 15 Then the Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael as king over Aram.

    Come Thou Fount

Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
    Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise

    Teach me some melodious sonnet
    Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I’m fixed upon it
    Mount of God’s unchanging love

    Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I’ve come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
    Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
    Interposed His precious blood

Oh to grace how great a debtor
    Daily I’m constrained to be
Let Thy grace now like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart O take it seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart O take it seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

    Church Without Walls

    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself.

    • Since we’re out in God’s creation, let’s stand together, spread our arms out wide (make some room if you need to!), and take 2 or 3 deep breaths
    • Now, look around and see if you can spot something in nature that gives you a sense of peace. Turn to a neighbor and share just the color and one sentence about why it gives you peace!

    Call to Worship

    God is our strength,
    our Rock, and our Refuge.
    We trust in God’s faithfulness.

We rest in the peace of Christ,
    and seek to become peace-makers,
for the life of the world around us.
    Amen.

    Worship Song

    Called Us Higher

    We could just sit
We could just sit and wait for all Your goodness
    Hope to feel Your presence

    And we could just stay
We could just stay right where we are
    and hope to feel You
    Hope to feel something again

But You have called us higher
    You have called us deeper
And we’ll go where You will lead us Lord
    Where You lead us, Lord

    And we could hold on
We could hold on to who we are and never let You
    Change us from the inside

    And we could be safe
We could be safe here in Your arms
    and never leave home
    Never let these walls down

    And we will be Yours
We will be Yours for all my life

    Community Prayer

    God of the whole earth,
Today we bring You our whole lives —
    our beauty and brokenness,
    our anxieties and our dreams.
O God, fill us with Your hope.

Your world, and all of creation, is crying out
    for justice, flourishing, and peace.
O God, restore us in Your love.

Be near to the suffering in war-torn places
around the word like Gaza and Sudan,
and in the streets of protest around our nation.
    O God, comfort the afflicted
    and bring Your justice.

Make us instruments of Your peace and love.
    Amen.

    Conversation Questions

    • What are things in your life that are life-giving that you want to do more of? What is getting in the way of this happening?
    • What are the things in your life that are draining? In what ways can you invite the Lord into that space and find ways to find rest and comfort even in those draining spaces?

    Worship Song

You Don’t Have to Lose Heart

Hey now, you don’t have to lose heart
Hey now, we are only at the start
    Of what God’s doing here

Hey now, you don’t have to lose heart
Hey now, we are only at the start
    Of what God’s doing here… He’s here

So let us put our trust
In the One who carries us
    So we can let go
    Of every disappointment

    Let us cling to love
To the hope ahead of us
    So we can hold on
    To every single promise

Brother, when your troubles weigh you down
Sister, fix your eyes on higher ground
On the peace that’s yet to come…

Let us rest here in the hands
Of the One who made all things
Let us rest here in the plans
Of the One who knows all things

    Pentecost Sunday

    Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself.

    • Hebrews 12 tells us that our God is a consuming fire; on that first Pentecost day, the Spirit came to us as wind and fire
    • As you eat this cinnamon candy, we invite you to “taste and see that the Lord is good” •  What kind of fire might the Spirit light in your heart today?

    Call to Worship

    Come, Holy Spirit,
    The wind of God and the breath of Life;
    Our Advocate and our Counselor.

    Can these dry bones live?
Yes! The Breath of God will revive us!
We give thanks to the wild, life-giving Spirit of God!
    Amen.

    Prayer of Confession

    Holy God,
    from our scattered lives,
    You bring hope and healing

    Throughout time and history,
Your Spirit equips, challenges, and transforms.
    Transform us through Your wind & fire;
Hear us, O God, we pray:

    — Moment of silent prayer —

Pour out Your Spirit among us again,
    opening our hearts and minds,
and filling us with love and compassion.
    Amen.

    Assurance of God’s Love

    Prayers of the People

In so many ways, our world is in turmoil. Violence, hatred, and evil dominate our headlines. And yet, we are not left in despair. We invite you to hold up prayers in your heart for the people and places that move you as we join with the saints throughout time and history in praying The Lord’s Prayer out loud together. As Jesus taught us, we pray together…

Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be Thy name.

    Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
    Give us this day our daily bread;

    and forgive us our debts,
    as we forgive our debtors;

and lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power
    and the glory, forever.
    Amen.

    Scripture Reading

    Acts 2:1-21

1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

5 Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6 And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7 Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes 11 Cretans and Arabs — in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” 12 All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15 Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. 16 No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

17  ‘In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all people,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.

18  Even upon my servants, both men and women,
              in those days I will pour out my Spirit;
                  and they shall prophesy.

19  And I will show portents in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and smoky mist.

20  The sun shall be turned to darkness
              and the moon to blood,
before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day.

21  Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

    Worship Song

    Future / Past

You hold the reins on the sun and the moon
    Like horses driven by kings
You cover the mountains, the valleys below
With the breadth of Your mighty wings

All treasures of wisdom and things to be known
    Are hidden inside Your hand
And in this fortunate turn of events
You ask me to be Your friend
You ask me to be Your friend

    And You,
    You are my first
    You are my last
You are my future and my past

    The constellations are swimming inside
    The breadth of Your desire
Where could I run, where could I hide
    From Your heart’s jealous fire

You are the beginning and the end

20 (Jesus said) “I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.25 “Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
