Centering Practice

We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself. Begin by taking a couple of slow, deep breaths.

  • Put your feet flat on the floor, place your hands on top of your knees, and gently put weight down so you can feel your feet grounded in the love God has for you
  • Now, hold out your hands, palms upward as a symbol of openness to the future God has for you

Call to Worship

In sovereign love, God created the world good.
Each of us is made in the image of God.
We are being called to wholeness and holiness.

Let us love God, our neighbors, and ourselves
with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Amen.

Worship Songs

Great Things

Come let us worship our King
Come let us bow at His feet
He has done great things

See what our Savior has done
See how His love overcomes
He has done great things
He has done great things

O Hero of Heaven
You conquered the grave
You free every captive and break every chain
O God, You have done great things

We dance in Your freedom, awake and alive
O Jesus, our Savior, Your name lifted high
O God, You have done great things

You’ve been faithful through every storm
You’ll be faithful forevermore
You have done great things

And I know You will do it again
For Your promise is “Yes and amen”
You will do great things
God, You do great things

Come Now is the Time / The Way

Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give our hearts

Come, just as we are to worship
Come, just as we are before our God
Come

Through every battle
Through every heartbreak
Through every circumstance
I believe that You are my fortress
You are my portion
You are my hiding place

I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life

Through every blessing
Through every promise
Through every breath I take
I believe that You are Provider
You are Protector
You are the One I love

And it’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts, they can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when I’m here with You

It’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when

Prayer of Confession

God our Creator,
In You, all things work together for good.

When we fail to give and receive love;
When our good intentions are not put into action;
Forgive us, O God, we pray:

— Moment of silent prayer —

God of restoration,
Free us to live with compassion and kindness,
filled with wonder and gratitude.
Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

Prayers of the People

After each phrase, let’s pray out loud: “Lord, have mercy”

For those suffering from violence, hatred, and war,
especially children…

For all of creation, groaning under the weight of sin and waste…

For ourselves and our loved ones,
to be strengthened, healed, and renewed…

For our friends who need to know Your love
and the friendship of our Anchor & Hope community…

For renewed dreams, reinvigorated hearts,
and restored lives in our church…

For the Church worldwide to act justly, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with You…

Amen.

Announcements
  • Thanks for worshiping with us today! We hope you experience meaningful connection with God and others in our community. If you’re visiting for the first time today, we’d love to get to know you better. Please take home a visitor’s card with QR code so that we can stay in touch & build a relationship!
  • 501c3 Launch Date: Our core team (especially Tae!) has been working hard to prepare for our church’s launch as an independent nonprofit organization. We’re targeting September 15th! Practically speaking, not much will change, but we will begin accepting checks written directly to “Anchor & Hope Church.” Let’s keep building the future together!
  • Church Retreat: We need to get finalized registration information as soon as possible. Please let Howard know if you’ll be joining us this year (Sept 18-20 at Palomar Christian Conference Center).
  • Mira Mesa Street Fair: Our church will once again host a booth at the Street Fair on Saturday, October 3rd (setup at 9:00 am, tear down at 5:00 pm). We’re looking for volunteers throughout the day as we seek to be good neighbors and share the creative, hope-filled love of Christ with all!

Passing of the Peace

Let’s greet each other at this time!

Blessing of the Children

Go in peace and go in joy;
Filled with wonder for this day.
Go in faith and go in love;

Worship Song

Great Are You Lord

You give life
You are love
You bring light to the darkness

You give hope
You restore
every heart that is broken
And great are You, Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

We pour out our praise

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

To You only

All the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are You, Lord

Scripture Reading

John 10:1-10

1 (Jesus said) “Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

7 So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

This is the Word of the Lord.
Together: Thanks be to God.

Worship Song

You Hold It All Together

You come at the right time
When I least expect it
Never behind

So why would I be surprised
When You deliver every time

On mountaintops, You stay the same
In valleys low, You never change

And I believe that I will see
The goodness of the Lord
I’m confident as seasons change
Your faithfulness remains

You go, You go before me
To prepare a blessing
You madе a way

It’s more than I could imagine
More than I can fathom
Or comprehend

God of my present
God of my future
You write my story
You hold it all together

And I believe that I will see
The goodness of the Lord
I’m confident as seasons change
Your faithfulness remains

Benediction
