Scripture Reading
Revelation 1:4-8
4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
7 Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. So it is to be. Amen.8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Palm Sunday
Centering Practice
We invite you to slow down, breathe, and connect with God, each other, and yourself.
On this Palm Sunday, we remember the words of the psalmist: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.” We will let Psalm 103 guide our centering practice as we proclaim the salvation of our Lord together:
- For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is God’s love for those who fear God • Stand and stretch your arms
- As far as the east is from the west, so far has God removed our transgressions from us • Stretch arms to sides
- As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him • Embrace yourself
Call to Worship
For Palm Sunday, adapted from Thom Shuman
We begin our journey through the holiest of weeks:
Through praise and celebration, with joy on our lips;
Through betrayal and death, cradling hope deep in our hearts. We follow in the steps of Jesus, wherever He leads:
for in Him is true life and light;
He is the Living Word and hope of all creation. We wave palm branches and proclaim:
Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!
Blessed is the One who ushers in the kingdom of God.
Amen.

Scripture Reading
Luke 19:28-40
28 After he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
29 When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it’” 32 So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “The Lord needs it.” 35 Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying,
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!”39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”

The Fifth Sunday in Lent
Centering Practice
As we continue to journey together through this season of Lent, let us wait on the Lord with faith, hope, and love. Once again, today’s centering practice comes from Cole Arthur Riley, creator of Black Liturgies. We invite you to close your eyes and reflect on this quote before we engage our breath prayers: Author and theologian Frederick Buechner wrote, “You can survive on your own; you can grow strong on your own; you can prevail on your own; but you cannot become human on your own.”
Inhale: My journey is not solitary
Exhale: We heal together
Call to Worship
As we journey together
during this Lenten season,
we remember:The everyday places we walk
are holy ground;
and the ordinary people we meet
are deeply loved by God.In these thin spaces,
steadfast love and faithfulness meet.
From ashes and dust, God creates beauty.
Amen.

Sound of Adoration
When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home
When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praiseWhen we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praiseThis is the sound of adoration
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love YouYou are the joy of all creation
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love YouYou are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praiseBy the cross, I am free
Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
Your grace changes everything
Kingdom Come
God, let Your kingdom come
May Your will be done
God, let Your kingdom comeEarth is groaning and we are longing
For Your kingdom to come

The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yoursLift up your hearts, all who suffer and mourn
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yoursLift up your eyes, all who hunger for more
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yoursLift up a shout, let the earth hear your voice
The Lord is at hand and His kingdom is yoursI will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
Prayer of Confession
God of love,
We thank You for being
Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer
of our lives and all creation. We confess how easy it is
for us to remain stuck in our ways
rather than risk transformation and hope.
Forgive us, O God, we pray:— Moment of silent prayer —
God of hope,
Guide us to reorient our lives
towards Your goodness and joy,
for the life of the world around us.
Amen.

Prayers of the People
Today’s Prayers of the People will be about expanding our circles of love, concern, and prayer. I’ll invite you to pray from very local to global by embodying a motion, praying silently for 5 seconds — and then I’ll repeat the prayer topic and we’ll respond out loud, “Lord, have mercy.”
- For those living under our household, in all of the concerns we see and in all of those we cannot see (hands to heart)
- For our local communities where we live, study, work, and play (palms upward in our laps)
- For our nation and the many concerns arising in our world today (hands held upward)
- For the Church worldwide to be faithful witnesses & advocates of Christ’s love and justice (stand together)
- For those suffering from violence, hatred, and war (arms crossed across to shoulders)

Scripture Reading
Luke 12:22-32
22 He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25 And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to your span of life? 26 If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith! 29 And do not keep seeking what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. 30 For it is the nations of the world that seek all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Kids Reflection
This story comes from Matthew 13:
That same day Jesus left the house and sat by the Sea of Galilee. 2 Large crowds gathered around him. So he got into a boat and sat down. All the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things using stories. He said, “A farmer went out to plant his seed. 4 He scattered the seed on the ground. Some fell on a path. Birds came and ate it up. 5 Some seed fell on rocky places, where there wasn’t much soil. The plants came up quickly, because the soil wasn’t deep. 6 When the sun came up, it burned the plants. They dried up because they had no roots. 7 Other seed fell among thorns. The thorns grew up and crowded out the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It produced a crop 100, 60 or 30 times more than what was planted. 9 Whoever has ears should listen.”
. . . .18 “Listen! Here is the meaning of the story of the farmer. 19 People hear the message about the kingdom but do not understand it. Then the evil one comes. He steals what was planted in their hearts. Those people are like the seed planted on a path. 20 The seed that fell on rocky places is like other people. They hear the message and at once receive it with joy. 21 But they have no roots. So they last only a short time. They quickly fall away from the faith when trouble or suffering comes because of the message. 22 The seed that fell among the thorns is like others who hear the message. But then the worries of this life and the false promises of wealth crowd it out. They keep the message from producing fruit. 23 But the seed that fell on good soil is like those who hear the message and understand it. They produce a crop 100, 60 or 30 times more than the farmer planted.”
Watch the video for this story here:
Have a conversation with your kids about the following questions:
- What happened to the different seeds in this story?
- What do the different seeds represent?
- Who does the farmer represent?
- How can we be like the seeds in good soil?
God wants the whole world to know about the love of Jesus! That’s what our memory verse is all about!
- Ask your kids to show you their memory verse from John 3:16 with motions (text Ann Leong if you need help with motions!)
- John 3:16 says… For God so loved the world… that he gave his one and only Son… Anyone who believes in him… will not die… but will have eternal life.
Prayer for Illumination
Open our hearts, O God,
as we engage the words of Scripture,
so that our hearts may be fertile soil
in which You plant Your Living Word.
Amen.
Scripture Reflection
Read John 16:33 out loud:
(Jesus said)
I have told you these things,
so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart!
I have overcome the world.Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
Together: Thanks be to God.
Read through John 16:33 several times. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
What is the Spirit saying to you through this verse?
On PD’s hike he shows us the Torrey Pine tree, which grows from a tiny seed into an iconic symbol of San Diego. As we’ve mentioned, Reset Sunday is a time to rest deeply in a different kind of way, to take a pause, perhaps to engage the five senses, spend time with loved ones, and connect God through all of it. It’s also a time where we remember that we can rest because God never does.
In what ways are you caring for the “seed of eternity planted in (your) soul” today?
The Torrey Pine tree’s beautiful sculptural form is a testament to its ability to survive and even thrive in a harsh environment, despite the challenges thrown its way.
What kinds of challenges are you facing? What challenges are those around you facing? Take a moment to invite God’s presence into those challenges, perhaps asking for guidance, wisdom, and strength.
The Torrey Pine is deeply interconnected to its local ecosystem. Take a moment to think of your interconnections.
Who comes to mind this day? Take a moment to thank God for those that have helped you to be resilient. Then, take a moment to pray for those facing difficulties and ask God to reveal how you might be a source of help and encouragement to them.
Reap That Joy
Reap That Joy
We’ve sown in tears
We’ve sown in grief
We’ve scattered seeds of broken-hearted
Broken dreamsWe’ve buried years
Of hurt down deep
But wait and see the winter frost
Will yield to springI know we’re gonna
I know we’re gonna
I know we’re gonna
I know we’re gonna
Reap that joy, reap that joy of the LordAs long as you’re living
As long as you’re breathing
Don’t you ever stop
Don’t you ever give in
Reap that joy, reap that joy of the Lord
Reap that joyWe’ve planted pain
We’ll harvest hope
Isn’t darkness where the garden
Starts to growUp from the dirt
Up from the earth
There’ll be resurrection rising
Like a rose
There’ll be resurrection rising
Like a roseI know He’s always working
Down underneath the surface
Whatever we buried
Will burst into life againI know in heaven’s timing
We’re going back to Eden
Where all that we buried
Will burst into life again
Closing Blessing
Go in peace;
be of good courage,
hold fast to what is good,
return no one evil for evil;
strengthen the fainthearted,
help the afflicted,
honor all people,
love and serve the Lord.May the blessing of God Almighty,
Creator, Christ, and Spirit,
go with us, today and forever.
Amen

The Second Sunday in Lent
Centering Practice
As we continue to journey together through this season of Lent, let us wait on the Lord with faith, hope, and love. Once again, today’s centering practice comes from Cole Arthur Riley, creator of Black Liturgies.
Inhale: The night is long
Exhale: My soul keeps watch
Call to Worship
As we journey together
during this Lenten season,
we remember:The everyday places we walk
are holy ground;
and the ordinary people we meet
are deeply loved by God.In these thin spaces,
steadfast love and faithfulness meet.
From ashes and dust, God creates beauty.
Amen.
Worship Song
The Love of the Father

Join with the heavens, declaring the wonders
Of His faithfulness foreverSing of the victory, the hope of the world
The Saviour has risen, the Spirit has come to

With the freedom of hope in our hearts
How great is the love of the FatherLifted from darkness and into the light
The sons and the daughters are loved at a price
Our God has made us His foreverThis is the song of the redeemed
The ransomed and the free
Given life at such a price
This is love, this is loveAnd when the Father calls us home
And we see Him on the throne
Hear the voices sing as one
This is love, this is love

Prayer of Confession
Loving God,
ever-creating, ever-loving, ever-present:
when things around us feel chaotic,
You are steadfast love.When we waver, make us faithful;
In our weakness; be our strength;
As we struggle, carry us;
Hear us, O God, we pray:— Moment of silent prayer —
We worship You,
Creator, Christ and Spirit,
ever Three and ever One.
Amen.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up…12 Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.

The Three Sisters
Pastor Dan
Conversation Questions:
- Like the “three sisters,” what are gifts we can offer to support each other in different stages of growth?
- Picture Anchor & Hope as a biodiverse ecosystem: how does our life together provide health & life to people around us? What are different onramps for connection? What are gifts of blessing (food) and encouragement (shelter) that our life together can provide to others?
Worship Song
Teach Us Your Ways
Teach us Your ways… teach us Your ways
As we learn from one another
Learn to love each other
Teach us Your waysTeach us to give… teach us to give
Give ourselves for one another
Learn to love each other

Let us weep with one another

Scripture Reading
John 12:20-26
20 Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went and told Andrew, then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23 Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain, but if it dies it bears much fruit. 25 Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor.

Reflection Questions:
- How would you finish this sentence: I wish I…
- If you find yourself wishing for something material or cosmetic, that’s okay! But try to get to the heart of what you’re really wishing for – why do I wish for this thing? What do I really want?
- Take a minute to pray to God by finishing this sentence, “Would You…?”

Scripture Reading
Luke 9:28-36
28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.

Send the Rain
Lord, we come to You
Now with open hands
Broken lives and dreams
Washed up on the sandWe’ve been beaten down
But still we choose to stand
We choose to standLord, we long for You
For Your hand to move
Heal this barren land
Come and make it newJesus, You’re the life
That is breaking through
You’re breaking throughThe saints of old in ancient days
They worked the ground
that we reap from todaySo use our hands to cultivate
The harvest that
our children’s children taste
We’re ready God, so send the rainLord, we’ll follow You
To unbroken earth
On the path not used
Where new hope is birthedWe will work as one
Holding to Your truth
To Your truthHeal the ruined cities
We destroyed with our own hands
Bring us back together
Let us see the promised landPour out Your Spirit
On this dry and thirsty ground
O God of the harvest
Could it be right here and now
Could it be right here and nowOpen up the heavens,
let Your rain fall down

Sound of Adoration
When we were lost ones
You were the Shepherd that carried us home
When we were prodigals
You ran to meet us with open arms
And we can’t hold back our praiseWhen we were refugees
You were the One who took us in
When we were enemies
You paid the price for all our sin
And we can’t hold back our praiseThis is the sound of adoration
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love YouYou are the joy of all creation
Oh, how we love You
Jesus, we love YouYou are the Risen One
You conquered death and made a way
You sang our freedom song
Now we are dancing on our chains
And we can’t hold back our praiseBy the cross, I am free
Your grace changes everything
I was blind, now I see
Your grace changes everything
My Hallelujah
Open up the doors again
Let the King of glory in
His Kingdom will never end
Oh, I know that You are goodBreak the darkness with the light
All the earth let praise arise
Every dead place come alive
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are goodYou will have my hallelujah
You alone the highest name
All to You I surrender
Every breath I take
Make my life Your praiseOh, Spirit of the Living God
Fire burning in my heart
I’m wide awake to who You are
Oh, I know that You are good
Oh, I know that You are goodYou are my strength when I am weak
You are my sight when I can’t see
As praise goes up, I believe
The walls are coming downOh, when I was lost, You rescued me
When I was bound, You set me free
As praise goes up, I believe
The walls are coming down

Adapted from Dr. Barbara A. Holmes. Dr. Holmes was a spiritual teacher, author, activist, and scholar — as well as President Emerita of United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities
Our God
in whom we live and move and have our being,
For the nurture of our many villages of belonging;
for unexpected healing and imaginative pathways;
we give thanks. In our fractured and frustrating time,
we cannot carve out shared destinies in isolation.
Even in our wounded unknowing,
bring us to a place of true contemplation.Open our eyes to wonder and mystery all around us;
open our hearts to authentic connection;
open our hands to become a community of care,
even in the midst of crisis and concern.— Moment of silent prayer —
Spirit of love,
Bring us into inner space so deep, so daringly vast,
that even in the midst of noise around us,
we find stillness and home in You.
Amen.

- Support for World Relief: Our church is sending $1500 to support the work of World Relief in helping refugee families, which will cover rent/utilities for one month for one family. For over 40 years, World Relief has worked with both Republican and Democratic administrations to help resettle over 500,000 refugees. The suspension of the Refugee Resettlement Program and a stop-work order in January means that private donations are the only means of support for 4,000 recent refugees who were already in process of being resettled here.

Scripture Reading
John 9:1-12
1 As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, 7 saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see. 8 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar began to ask, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some were saying, “It is he.” Others were saying, “No, but it is someone like him.” He kept saying, “I am he.” 10 But they kept asking him, “Then how were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ Then I went and washed and received my sight.” 12 They said to him, “Where is he?” He said, “I do not know.”

Hosanna in the highestI see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith
With selfless faithI see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We’re on our knees
We’re on our kneesHeal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved meBreak my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your kingdom’s cause
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Community Prayer
Today’s prayer comes from the work of Howard Thurman
O love of God,
without which life has no meaning
and no harbor,Leave us not alone with our little lives,
our broken dreams, our insistent problems,
but invade our spirit with Thy vitalityThat we may be renewed in all the ways of our lives,
that we may turn from this place, this day,
with all that is within us,
washed and purified and refreshed.— Moment of silent prayer —
We seek this with simplicity of heart,
and with quiet faith and confidence
that Thou would not deny Thy love to Thy children.
Amen.

Healing Through the Eyes of Jesus
Pastor Dan
Quiet Reflection:
- What does healing mean to you?
- What holds you back from being totally open to Jesus?
- How would your life be different if Jesus put you back together? Are you open to that kind of change?
Worship Song
Simplicity
I come in simplicity
Longing for purity
To worship You
In spirit and truth, only YouLord, strip it all away
‘Til only You remain
I’m coming back
To my first love, only YouYou’re the reason I sing
The reason I sing
Yes my heart will sing
How I love YouAnd forever I’ll sing
Forever I’ll sing
Yes my heart will sing
How I love YouI come with my broken song
To You the Perfect One
To worship You
In spirit and truth, only YouGive me a childlike heart
Lead me to where You are
Cause I’m coming back
To my first love, only YouHow I love You, how I love You
How I love You, my first love
