⁴¹ Now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. ⁴² And so, because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

¹ Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. ² So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” ³ Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. ⁴ The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. ⁵ He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. ⁶  Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. Garden of Gethsemane 

Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”

Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.” When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open.

So he went to pray a third time, saying the same things again. Then he came to the disciples and said, “Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But look—the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Up, let’s be going. Look, my betrayer is here!”

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
We are quite naturally impatient
in everything to reach the end without delay.
We should like to skip the intermediate stages.

We are impatient of being on the way

• Thanks for worshiping with us today! We hope you experience meaningful connection with God and others in our community. • Art Day with Sandburg: Please pray for our next art class with Sandburg led by Ann Leong this Wednesday, March 20th. Students will be learning about and painting in the style of Van Gogh, and all registration fees will be donated to the school. Please let Ann know if you’d like to volunteer! 
• Good Friday service: We will gather in-person here at Sandburg on Good Friday, March 29th at 7:00 pm for a time of quiet prayer & reflection.
• Easter Sunday: We will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection together on Sunday, March 31st with a special family service! Please keep an eye out for candy/Easter egg donation and potluck sign-ups coming soon.
• Visit a garden: As we reflect on “the garden” of God’s grace throughout Lent, we encourage you to visit one of the many gardens around the San Diego region. If you get a chance to visit, we’d love to hear about it!
